What is the difference between Clear Packing Tapes and Kraft Paper Tapes?

The most common packing tape in the market is the Clear Packing Tape which is made from polypropylene (PP) a form of plastic it is cheap and adhere well to new and recycled cardboard boxes. Kraft Paper Tapes on the other hand is made from paper which is eco-friendly and also adhere well to new and recycled boxes. They both do the same job but there are some subtle differences:  

• Clear Plastic Packing Tapes are Cheap ranging between $1 to $1.50 per roll,  whereas Kraft Paper Tapes cost more and ranging between $4 to $8. Awesome Pack have own Clear Packing Tape and Kraft Paper Tape which are one of the most economical tapes in the Australian Market.
• Kraft Paper Tapes are completely recyclable and compostable as it is fully made of Kraft paper whereas Clear Plastic Packing Tapes are not eco-friendly
• Kraft Paper Tape is much thicker at 110 micron while Clear Plastic tape is 45 micron. But please note paper is not as strong as plastic so even though kraft paper tape is substantially thicker the ability to hold might be similar to the 45 micron plastic tape 
• Clear Plastic Tapes may adhere better to some new boxes and Kraft Paper Tapes may adhere better to some recycled boxes but this is a case by case scenario as it depends on the materials used by the Cardboard box manufacturer
• Adhesive used for Plastic Tapes and Kraft Paper Tapes are different, Plastic Tapes are using mostly Acrylic adhesive which is great for light-medium weight parcels (up to 10kg). Some Plastic Tapes are using Hot Melt adhesive which is more heavy duty and can hold up to 25kg. While Kraft Paper Tapes use a Natural Rubber adhesive and can hold up to 25kg and are generally thicker and sticks well to both recycled boxes and non-recycled boxes.

Why Use Fragile Printed Tapes instead of using Fragile Sticker Labels?

If you are shipping something Fragile then you must let your Courier know that the contents of the parcel is fragile and the best way to do that is using Fragile Printed Tapes. In one action you are sealing the mailing box while displaying that the contents within the parcel is FRAGILE whereas if you are using Fragile Sticker labels you must do it in 2 actions, sealing the box and then putting a fragile stick on it. Another major advantage of using Fragile Tape is that the word FRAGILE is displayed all around the parcel and much more visible to the courier.

If you are decided to use Fragile printed tapes to seal your parcels then the next step is to decide if you should use a Fragile Printed Plastic Tape or Fragile Printed Kraft Paper Tape which is recyclable and eco-friendly, they both work but have a few differences:

• Fragile Printed Plastic Packing Tapes are Cheap ranging between $1.50 to $2 per roll,  whereas Kraft Paper Tapes cost more and ranging between $7 to $9 for our own branded ones and some brands can cost as much as $17 per roll! • Fragile Printed Kraft Paper Tape blends nicely with the brown mailing box while Fragile Printed Plastic Tape is glossy and give off that unpleasant plastic feel.
  

Is Brown Packing Tape the same thing as Kraft Paper Tape?

Yes, some people just call it by the colour and some others refer to it by their material. Both Brown Packing Tape and Kraft Paper Tape are synonymous to each other.

What is Heavy Duty Packing Tape?

Some businesses ship heavy boxes and may require a tougher or a Heavy Duty Packing Tape to ensure the box doesn't open during shipping. Generally this is done by having a thicker Plastic Tape which provides the extra strength to hold the items together.

To give you a rough idea, Awesome Pack's Clear Packing Tapes are 45 micron in thickness and heavy duty packing tapes may range from 55 to 70 microns. Sometimes this might be an overkill as a 45 micron thick tape can hold a box together for up to 22kg, we know as we ship packaging which is bulky and heavy and our Awesome Pack Clear Packing Tape 45 micron holds goods together well. 

Another reason why you might just keep using the economical clear packing tape with 45 micron thickness is that you can always apply another stretch of tape on the box and seal the edges for that extra seal. This way all you need to buy is one type of tape and that's our Awesome Pack's Clear Packing Tape.  

Does Awesome Pack Sell Cheap Packing Tape?

Awesome Pack have a range of adhesive tapes suitable for packing. The most economical version would be our own branded Awesome Pack Clear Packing Tapes made with acrylic adhesive with a width of 48mm and length of 75m which fits perfectly to most Tape dispensers in the Australian Market. This is the cheapest tape we have as we mass produce them and pass on the savings to our customers. Suitable to pack parcels up to 10kg.

How to load a Packing Tape Dispenser?

Some Packing Tape Dispensers on the market can be confusing to function as it may have unnecessary parts or very bulky to hold, but our own Awesome Pack's Packing Tape Gun is super easy to use and lightweight which is easy of the hands (very important when running a successful business shipping hundreds of boxes a day) 

However if you do need some instructions on How to Load a Packing Tape Dispenser then simply follow these steps:

1. Pull back the metal latch of the Tape Dispenser
2. Insert the Tape Roll with the metal latch on the inside of the core. Ensure the Roll is facing the metal cutter and the tape can be pulled from top to bottom. 
3. Pull the Tape under and around to the metal cutter
   
4. Push the metal latch back into place. The metal latch will squeeze in the tape roll to tape gun.
5. Use hand to pull the tape through to ensure it spins easily and it's Ready for Use!

Does Awesome Pack sell Machine Length Clear Packing Tape?

Yes, we have Machine Length Clear Packing Tape for most automatic box sealing machines that manufacturer's use to seal their boxes perfectly every time. This is for machine application only and not suitable for manual taping as the Machine length tape roll is over 2kgs and you will end up with a sore hand!
