The major disadvantage of using Packing peanuts is space; they take up a lot of space. Just as a guide, a bag of 400L will fill up the back seats of most cars, but may not fit in the boot of a small one. TIPS FOR USING BIO FILL PACKAGING PEANUTS

Getting the most out of your biodegradable packing peanuts comes down to getting the basics right, from filling technique to proper storage and disposal.

LINE THE BOX BEFORE YOU PACK

Start by placing a layer of Bio Fill at the bottom of your box before adding your product. This creates a cushioned base and stops your item from sitting directly against the cardboard, which reduces the risk of impact damage during handling. Once your product is in place, fill the remaining gaps around the sides and top so nothing can shift during transit.

FILL GRADUALLY AND SHAKE AS YOU GO

Rather than pouring in a large amount all at once, add packing peanuts in smaller amounts and gently shake the box as you go. This helps the fill settle naturally into every corner and gap, including tight spaces that can otherwise be missed. A well-filled box should have no visible movement when gently shaken before sealing.

CUSHION HOLLOW OR IRREGULAR ITEMS TOO

If you're packing something with gaps or open spaces, like a mug, vase or anything with an uneven shape, don't just fill around it. Tuck some Bio Fill into those internal gaps as well so the item can't shift or knock against itself during transit. This is especially important for anything with handles, lids or delicate protruding parts.

MATCH THE AMOUNT TO THE PRODUCT WEIGHT

Lighter items generally need less fill, while heavier or oddly shaped products benefit from a thicker layer of cushioning on all sides. As a general rule, aim for at least 5cm of fill between your product and the walls of the box, increasing this for anything fragile or awkward to pack.

COMBINE WITH OTHER PACKAGING WHERE NEEDED

For extra protection, Bio Fill can be used alongside other packaging materials rather than as a standalone solution. Wrapping fragile items in paper or a protective sleeve before surrounding them with fill adds another layer of security, particularly useful for glass, ceramics or electronics.

STORE YOUR FILL IN A DRY, SEALED CONTAINER

Bio Fill is moisture-sensitive by design, which is part of what makes it break down so easily. Store any unused packing peanuts in a sealed bag or container away from humidity to keep them dry and ready for your next shipment. Unlike styrofoam peanuts, which can sit indefinitely without changing, Bio Fill should be kept protected from moisture until you're ready to use it.

DISPOSE OF LEFTOVER FILL RESPONSIBLY

One of the simplest ways to use Bio Fill is to dissolve any leftover or damaged pieces in water at home, then pour the resulting liquid down the drain or add it to your compost.
